Table Story is a simple word game that has become most family’s favorite. It involves everyone and does not require homework beforehand. It starts with an adult or a child telling a story, and the next one continues. For instance, one player starts the story with “Jack hears someone calling his name. He looks around but sees no one.” Then, the next player continues the story with a few sentences, then the following player takes over, and so on till everyone gets the chance to tell their parts. Even though the story may change, it still has to make sense. After a few laps, the narrator, who is the first person opening the game, can finish the story.

The cautious player would rather increase their counted score slowly and stop after collecting ten points in one round, but others might instead go all out to get the entire fifty point in one turn.

This game is not only great to bring a family together but also helps to build language skills and public speaking. The game rule is a player would think of one topic given for half minutes and speak about it in a minute without pausing and saying “Um” or other similar words. Each player can take turns with different suitable topics, especially younger children. Also, they may have a shorter time limit to speak their ideas. It sounds easy, but it is difficult not to pausing with “Um” or “Ah” at first. After a few rounds or another family games night, it might get easier.

Most people come all the way down with the idea of expensive or fancy games to light up the night of family games.
